To Home-Start Brent every family is special and having been referred, we respond to that family through a combination of home visiting and or group support.
Throughout Brent, parents are playing the key role in ensuring their children have a secure and happy childhood. However, there are times when even the most dedicated parent can face challenges that prevent them doing all they want for their children.
At Home-Start Brent we offer a unique service. We recruit and prepare volunteers who are usually parents themselves to visit the families at home and offer the parents informal, friendly and confidential support. The volunteers are friendly, approachable people who are relied on and trusted by the parents to listen without being judgemental and to respect the needs of each individual family they support.
We maintain the support as the parents grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links within the community.
Our Brent population (263,463) is very diverse and is one of only two boroughs in the UK, where for the first time the Black & ethnic communities represent a greater proportion that the white community. Compared with the national average (2001 Census), our borough has a relatively young population and the fourth lowest proportion of older people.
