Our Teenage Parent Co-ordinator visits the referred Teenage Parents, listens to their concerns and tries to clarify their needs. We also clarify whether they need One to One Home Visiting support, weekly Group support or a mixture of the two.
The One to One Home Visiting support gives the Teenage Parent the opportunity to talk in depth about issues close to their hearts. It also gives them that personal space to build a relationship with another adult who is their for them.
The Group programme runs for 30 weeks and covers a range of topics decided upon by the Teenage Parents themselves e.g.
Make up/Caring for your skin, Hair Care, Breast feeding & bonding, interactive play with your baby, relationships with the baby father, budgeting, weaning and healthy eating, immunisation and going back to education (i.e. college or training)
In addition, the group sessions are supplemented by a range of visitors e.g. a journalist for a national newspaper, the fire service on safety in the home, Boys to Men debate on gender, roles & responsibilities.
We have been providing a separate programme of support for our Teenage Parents since 2001. This came about as a result of the feedback we received from the Teen Parents we were supporting at that time.
Our Teen Parents can self refer or be referred by a friend, a relative, a health visitor, social worker, teacher, a member of a faith community, other charities etc. Once referred by an agency , we will contact and visit the Teenage Parent within two weeks of receiving the referral form.
Please contact us for our referral form which must be returned by post.
At the initial visit we will explain our Home Visiting and Group programme for Teenage Parents.
